Welcome to WORD 2008
Another year, another WORD Festival, and once again we’ve got a fantastic line-up and an even more varied programme of events. There’s a strong Scottish and Irish core to it this year, with Welsh and English contributions and writers from Australia and New Zealand. As always, Gaelic and Doric feature strongly, and there’s a tribute to a great Bengali poet and philosopher, Sri Chinmoy. It’s the range that's impressive – alongside themore literary events there are art exhibitions, filmscreenings, word and music events and a theatre production. Hardeep Singh Kohli shares his wit and wisdom, Mark Millar leads us into the world of comic books and A-list Hollywood stars, Willie Miller celebrates the 25th anniversary of Aberdeen’s European triumph, and King Creosote talks and rocks. "Welcome to the Scotland’s Rural Past website. We are working with local communities to research, record and promote the vanishing settlements and landscapes of Scotland’s rural past. Here you will find all the information you need to get involved and discover the stories behind historic rural settlements across the country. You can find out what our volunteer groups are doing, add your comments and photographs and learn more about the rural heritage in your area. Click here to find out more about Scotland’s Rural Past."
